Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has announced significant expansions to its network and services at the MATTA Fair, Malaysia’s largest international travel expo, underscoring its ambition to rank among the world's Top 10 global airlines by 2030.
A key highlight is Malaysia Airlines’ resumption of daily flights to Chengdu Tianfu International Airport (TFU) starting January 9, 2026, reinstating its presence in Chengdu after a 20-year hiatus. This addition grows Malaysia Airlines’ Greater China network to seven destinations, including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xiamen, Hong Kong, and Taipei. The route expansion coincides with the recent visa-free reciprocal entry agreement between Malaysia and China, boosting demand in this fast-growing market for both business and leisure travelers.
MAG’s regional carrier Firefly is also enhancing connectivity by launching new jet services to Krabi (KBV), Siem Reap (SAI), and Cebu (CEB) from Kuala Lumpur International Airport's Terminal 1 starting November 2025. This move strengthens regional links within ASEAN, facilitating tourism and commerce.
Group Managing Director Captain Izham Ismail emphasized the group’s strategic focus: “With new routes and increased frequencies, MAG is solidifying its role as the gateway to Asia and beyond, making it easier for travelers to explore top destinations.
We’re equally committed to delivering a premium in-flight experience rooted in Malaysian Hospitality, illustrated by innovations such as our new vegetarian satay made from Lion’s Mane mushroom available in Business Class.”
Further network growth includes increased flight frequencies to Australia, New Zealand, India, the Maldives, and Bangladesh, alongside augmented domestic and regional connectivity by Firefly to major Malaysian cities and Singapore.
Underpinning these expansions is MAG’s ongoing fleet modernization strategy. The introduction of the Airbus A330neo on key Australia and New Zealand routes offers improved fuel efficiency, state-of-the-art passenger comfort, and a commitment to sustainability. By early 2026, Malaysia Airlines will operate the youngest widebody fleet serving Australasia, reinforcing its competitive edge.
Collectively, these initiatives reflect Malaysia Aviation Group’s readiness to meet future demands with confidence, delivering enhanced value and seamless travel experiences to customers, while championing Malaysia’s role on the global aviation stage.
