In a historic milestone for global aviation, Turkish Airlines has debuted nonstop service between Istanbul and Sydney, operating the longest flight in the airline's 92-year history.
Flight TK35 touched down at Sydney Airport on Monday morning, completing the 10,300-kilometer (6,400-mile) journey from Istanbul in just over 16 hours. The return leg, TK36, departed Sydney later that day, making the record-breaking journey back to the airline's home base.
"This new route is a significant step forward in Turkish Airlines' global expansion and our commitment to connecting the world through our Istanbul hub," said Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines. "Travelers from Australia and across the region can now access our comprehensive network of over 340 destinations worldwide with just one stop in Istanbul."
The launch of the Sydney route comes as Turkish Airlines continues to expand its presence in the Asia-Pacific market. In recent years, the carrier has added new service to Philippines, Vietnam and Indonesia, solidifying its position as a leading international airline in the fast-growing region.
Onboard the inaugural Sydney flight, passengers were treated to Turkish Airlines' acclaimed inflight service, including delectable Turkish cuisine, an extensive selection of award-winning wines and spirits, and the airline's signature comfort and hospitality.
"We are thrilled to welcome Turkish Airlines to Sydney and to Australia," said Geoff Culbert, CEO of Sydney Airport. "This new nonstop service will provide travelers with greater access to Europe, the Middle East and beyond, further strengthening Sydney's position as a global aviation hub."
With the addition of Sydney, Turkish Airlines now operates flights to 11 destinations in the Asia-Pacific region, offering passengers seamless connectivity through its Istanbul base. The airline plans to continue expanding its network in the years ahead, cementing its status as one of the world's fastest-growing and most dynamic international carriers.
