Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, has announced a significant increase in its point-to-point passenger share, reaching a remarkable 46% in 2024. This strategic shift away from traditional hub-and-spoke operations has been a key driver of the airline's improved profitability and a catalyst for boosting inbound tourism to the country.
"Our focus on point-to-point routes has been a game-changer for Oman Air," said Abdulaziz Al Raisi, CEO of Oman Air. "By providing more direct connections between key destinations, we have been able to offer our passengers a more convenient and efficient travel experience, which has in turn, translated into increased passenger numbers and higher revenues."
The airline's point-to-point network now spans over 60 destinations worldwide, with a particular emphasis on connecting Oman to major business and leisure hubs in the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. This strategic shift has not only improved Oman Air's financial performance but has also had a positive impact on the country's tourism industry.
"The rise in point-to-point services has made it easier for travelers to access Oman, which has resulted in a significant increase in inbound tourism," said Azzan Al Busaidi, Undersecretary for Tourism at the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism. "We have seen a surge in visitor numbers, particularly from key markets like the United Arab Emirates, India, and the United Kingdom, as travelers are drawn to Oman's rich cultural heritage, stunning natural landscapes, and world-class hospitality."
The success of Oman Air's point-to-point strategy has not gone unnoticed in the industry, with the airline winning several prestigious awards, including "Best Regional Airline" and "Most Improved Airline" at the 2024 Skytrax World Airline Awards.
"Oman Air's commitment to providing a seamless and convenient travel experience for its passengers has been the key to its success," said industry analyst, Samantha Patel. "By focusing on point-to-point routes, the airline has been able to differentiate itself from its competitors and tap into the growing demand for direct connectivity, which has been a significant factor in its improved financial performance and the boost to Oman's tourism industry."
With its continued investment in fleet modernization, route network expansion, and customer-centric initiatives, Oman Air is well-positioned to maintain its momentum and further solidify its position as a leading regional carrier in the years to come.
