Queen Alia International Airport Sets Record with Highest February Traffic

Queen Alia International Airport Sets Record with Highest February Traffic

Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) has achieved a remarkable milestone in its operational history, setting a new record for passenger traffic in February 2025. This achievement underscores the airport's growing importance as a regional aviation hub and reflects the increasing demand for air travel in Jordan and the surrounding region.

The record-breaking figure of 726,635 passengers represents a significant 7.4% increase compared to February 2024, demonstrating QAIA's ability to attract and accommodate a growing number of travelers.

The surge in passenger numbers is accompanied by a corresponding increase in aircraft movements, which rose by 6.1% to reach 5,724. This growth in both passenger traffic and flight operations indicates a robust expansion of QAIA's capacity and its ability to handle increased air traffic efficiently.

However, it's worth noting that cargo handling experienced a decline of 23.5%, totaling 5,029 tons. This decrease in cargo volume may be attributed to various factors, including shifts in global trade patterns or changes in regional economic conditions.

Looking at the broader picture, QAIA's performance in the first two months of 2025 shows even more impressive growth. The airport registered a 10.2% increase in passenger numbers, reaching a total of 1,511,627 travelers from January to February.

This substantial growth over a two-month period suggests that QAIA is not only maintaining its position as Jordan's primary international gateway but is also expanding its influence in the regional aviation market. The addition of Libyan Wings to QAIA's airline network further enhances its connectivity, offering passengers more diverse flight options and strengthening the airport's role as a key transit point in the Middle East.

QAIA's success extends beyond mere traffic figures. The airport's recent recognition as the "Most Enjoyable Airport in the Middle East" for the second consecutive year by Airports Council International (ACI) World is a testament to its commitment to providing exceptional service and a positive travel experience.

This accolade reflects QAIA's ongoing efforts to improve its facilities, streamline operations, and enhance passenger comfort. As the airport continues to grow and evolve, it remains focused on maintaining high standards of service and efficiency, ensuring that it can meet the increasing demands of air travel while providing a welcoming environment for all passengers.

The record-breaking February traffic and overall growth trend at QAIA have significant implications for Jordan's economy and tourism sector. As more travelers pass through the airport, there is potential for increased tourism revenue, business opportunities, and cultural exchange.

Furthermore, QAIA's expansion and improved connectivity position Jordan as an increasingly attractive destination for both leisure and business travelers, potentially stimulating economic growth in various sectors beyond aviation.

The daily service departs London Heathrow at 9:10 PM local time and arrives at Kuala Lumpur International Airport at 5:20 PM the following day. Operated by Boeing 787-900 aircraft, passengers can select from four cabin classes: World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premium economy), Club World (business), and First.

Return fares start at £574. British Airways has also expanded its codeshare partnership with Malaysia Airlines, enabling seamless connections to over 17 destinations across the Asia-Pacific region, including Australia, New Zealand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

The Georgian capital of Tbilisi returns to British Airways’ route network after a 12-year gap. Flights operate four times weekly from London Heathrow, departing at 9:25 PM local time and arriving at Tbilisi International Airport at 5:30 AM the next day. The service offers two cabin options: Club Europe (business class) and Euro Traveller (economy), with fares starting from £244.

Georgia’s rich cultural heritage, picturesque landscapes, and claim as the birthplace of wine—boasting an 8,000-year-old winemaking tradition—make it a compelling destination for travelers seeking unique experiences.

Expanded Network Highlights

Beyond Kuala Lumpur and Tbilisi, British Airways has increased its flight frequency to Tokyo Haneda Airport, now operating twice daily for a total of 14 weekly flights. These services utilize Airbus A350-1000 and Boeing 787-900 aircraft with three cabin options.
